Filmmaker Sergio Arau said he made the movie, "A Day Without a Mexican" in order to make the invisible, visible.
The 2002 census estimated that Mexicans and Mexican-Americans make up 72 percent of the population in El Paso. Nationwide, the estimate is about eight percent.
Arau wanted to examine what would happen if all the Mexicans and Mexican-Americans disappeared for a day.
The movie setting takes place in California where Hispanics are the largest minority. "A Day Without a Mexican" reigns chaos. Food goes bad; beds are not made; and Border Patrol agents sit around bored all day.
Whether El Paso embraces the movie and story line remains to be scene.
